Huaca Pucllana

The Archaeological Complex "Huaca Pucllana" was an Administrative and Ceremonial Center of the Lima Culture, asociety that developed at the Peruvian Central Coast between 200 AD and 700 AD.
This is  adobe ceremonial center was likely built around 500 A.D. during the culrural hight of Lima´s history. Much of the site has been restored and excavation continue to uncover artifacts and the occasional mummy.

The Huaca Pucllana was described and studied by travelers and explorers since the 19th century. The real professional investigations only started in the middle of the 20th century when the top of the pyramid was exposed. In 1981 permanent works on the archaeological complex including excavations and conservation revealed the importance of the "Huaca Pucllana". The "Instituto Nacional de Cultura" (Peruvian Cultural Institute) and the "Municipalidad de Miraflores" (Municipality of Miraflores) signed an agreement in 1991 that allowed the "Huaca Pucllana" to become a historical and cultural park.

In May 2007 a water and light show called the Circuito Magico del Agua (The Magic Water Circuit) was inaugurated. The Magic Water Circuit has the Guinness Book record for the largest fountain complex in the world, displaying 13 distinct fountains and many are interactive. All of the fountains are illuminated at night, many with continuously changing color schemes. A colorful laser light program synchronized with classical and Peruvian music makes the fountains sparkle and shine as the water flows in unique patterns and shapes.

The Parque de la Reserva was originally opened in 1929 to commemorate all the civilian reservists who fought in the defence of Lima during the War of the Pacific. But more than 65 years later Parque de la Reserva became one of Lima's most visited tourist attractions.

Getting Wet in Lima’s Fountains

Not all the fountains are of the simple stop and stare variety, a few of them are interactive. The cupila Visitable breaks you in slowly, giving you the opportunity to walk beneath a flowing dome of jects. The Tunel d elas Sorpresas is 38-yard walkway through a tunnel of water.

The real star of the show in terms of sheer fun is the ever-polar Laberinto del Ensueño. Getting to the center of the "meze" is more a matter of timing than navigation; a mistaimed stride can land you right on top of a suddenly spewing jet of water.

Fuente de la Fantasía Water Show

The park’s showpiece fountain is the Fuente de la Fantasía (Fantasia Fountain). Each night, the 130-yard-long fountain bursts into life with a choreographed show of water, lasers and music. The show takes place three times a night, beginning at 7:15 pm, 8:15 pm and 9:30 pm. It’s a good way to end your stroll through Lima’s charming Magic Water Circuit. In May 2007 a water and light show called the Circuito Magico del Agua (The Magic Water Circuit) was inaugurated. San Cristoball Hill

The hill is part of the Rimac valley mountain range and got its name in 1535, shortly after the Spaniards erected a large cross on the side of the hill. The site was selected because it was the closest hill to the majorly populated areas of Lima, meaning the majority would be able to see and visit the cross

Since its construction, the cross has stood atop the hill looking over Lima, and although damaged by native tribes over time, it has prevailed. On a clear day (unlike the one when I visited) it is possible to see most, if not all, of Lima from the side of this hill. Even on the day I went, as overcast and drizzly as it was, I could see a vast majority of the city, from the colorful slums right below me, to the districts of San Isidro, Miraflores, and Barranco off in the distanceCerro San Cristobal is a site of pilgrimage for many Peruvians. The first Sunday of May and Easter Sunday are two days when masses of people flock to this cross, covering the entire hillside.
